Moving a Domain From One User Account to Another

If you have linked a domain to a user account on QUIC.cloud, but now wish it to belong to a different user account, it is possible to move it. You can either use our built-in transfer utility, or you can do it manually.

For these examples, let's assume:

  • Your domain is www.example.com
  • It's currently in a source QUIC.cloud account with the email address source@www.example.com.
  • You want to transfer it to a destination account with the email address destination@example.com.

Transfer Utility

QUIC.cloud provides a utility to make domain transfers from one QUIC.cloud account to another. This is the preferred way to do it, if both the source and destination account exist. If the destination account does not yet exist, please create an account before you begin. Or, you may use the Manual Transfer method.

While logged into the source account, from any my.quic.cloud Dashboard page, click the Profile icon in the top navigation bar. Then click the small Edit profile link under your email address.

Select Transfer Data from the side menu, and click the Start New Transfer button.

Transfer Data to Another Account

Enter the destination email address in the Transfer to Account field.

For Type of Transfer, you have two choices:

  • If you are transferring all of your domains, zones and credit out of the source and into the destination, then choose Merge Into Account. You can also opt to delete the source account if you don't intend to use it anymore
  • If you only want to transfer specific domains, zones, and partial credit, choose Selective Transfer.

Once you've made your choices, press the Begin Transfer button.

If you have requested Selective Transfer, you will be given the opportunity to select the domains you wish to transfer, and the amount of credit you wish to transfer.

On the confirmation screen, click the Transfer Data button. Email will be sent to both accounts to confirm the transfer. Both the source and the destination accounts must click the Confirm Transfer link in the email they receive.

Once confirmed by both parties, one last email will be sent to both source and destination to confirm that the transfer has been completed successfully. The www.example.com domain should now appear in the destination's account. Any existing service usage for the current month will be displayed, and your account credit balance will reflect any transferred credit.

If you were using the CDN before, you will need to set it up again in this new user account. If you need instructions, please see our Onboarding documentation, starting with the DNS Configuration section.

Manual Transfer

If the transfer utility is not an option, you can transfer a domain manually by removing it from the source account, and then linking it to the domain account.

Note

This method may cause some downtime for your domain.

Remove the domain from the Source account

  1. Log into the source QUIC.cloud dashboard (source@example.com), and select www.example.com from the list of domains.
  2. Navigate to Settings, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click the Delete Domain link.
  3. Choose Unlink Domain, which will allow you to link the domain to a new account without actually deleting any of the domain's data.
  4. If you need to disable the CDN or make any changes to your DNS, you will be prompted to do so before continuing to unlink the domain.
  5. Press the Yes, unlink domain button to confirm.
  6. Log out of QUIC.cloud.
  1. Log into www.example.com's WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Navigate to LiteSpeed Cache > General and click the Refresh Domain Key button.
  3. Wait a few minutes for the domain key to refresh, reload the page, and click the Link to QUIC.cloud button.

A dialog box will open on the QUIC.cloud website.

Set up the domain in the Destination account

  1. Log into the Destination QUIC.cloud account (destination@example.com). If you don't yet have an account under that email address, you can create one now.
  2. You will be asked if you want to link www.example.com to your account. Select Yes and click the Continue button.
  3. Visit the Destination account's QUIC.cloud Dashboard and click the www.example.com domain, which should now appear in your domain list.
  4. Review your settings. Any existing WordPress service usage for the current month will carry over and be displayed in this Destination dashboard.
  5. If you were using the CDN before, you will need to set it up again in this new user account. If you need instructions, please see our Onboarding documentation, starting with the DNS Configuration section.

Tip

If www.example.com is not in the Destination's domain list, log out and relink the domain to QUIC.cloud again, as described in the previous section. If it still fails to appear, please open a ticket, and we'll have a look.

Help from the Support Team

The QUIC.cloud support team can help you transfer www.example.com to a new QUIC.cloud account, if you wish, but there are a few steps you should take to make the process go smoothly.

(Remember, the domain to move is www.example.com and the email address associated with your new QUIC.cloud account is destination@example.com.)

Verify Ownership

We need to know that www.example.com belongs to you. To verify ownership, add a DNS TXT record that uses a qccheck subdomain as the host, and the Destination email address with a QC_ prefix as the content. Like so:

  • Type: TXT
  • Name / Hostqccheck.example.com
  • Value / Content: QC_destination@example.com

Once you have created this DNS record, open a ticket and request help transferring the domain.
